U-NIQ Consulting Pty Ltd is a fully Australian owned and managed company established in Canberra by a group of highly experienced IT professionals.

Since starting in mid 1999, U-NIQ has achieved remarkable successes in the fields of IT application development, services and project management for the Health Insurance Industry and in the provision of high level strategic IT advice to clients including the ACT Government.

Interfacing between legacy and current technologies. U-NIQ has particular expertise in adding new life to legacy systems through interfacing. We have experience in the adaptation of legacy systems to support EDI messaging through eftpos terminals, Interactive Voice Recognition and MQSeries message queues and web-enablement using java enterprise technology. U-NIQ personnel have particular experience in the design, development and effective implementation of messaging and transactional interfaces.

Privacy Implications: A U-NIQ Director was a member of the Privacy Advisory Committee to the Federal Government for several years and is in an ideal position to provide specific guidance on appropriate processes and procedures in this area

Brief Corporate History

U-NIQ, although only in existence for a relatively short time, has successfully delivered the EDI-Claims and Lifetime Health Cover projects for Medibank Private and provided strategic IT advice to clients including IBM Global Services, Medibank Private and the ACT Government. U-NIQ employees, as consultants, participated in the development and implementation of several additional projects for Medibank Private.

EDI-Claims for Medibank Private Ltd

The EDI-Claims (OPTUS) Project was an important MPL development to improve customer service by providing an on-line Extras Claim service using provider located EFTPOS-like devices in a network provided and managed by OPTUS.

The EDI-Claims project required a solution that accepted and responded to messages arriving from a switched EFTPOS-terminal network. The messages were processed in an OS/390 CICS environment using MQSeries messaging and COBOL/DELTA applications to interface with legacy applications originally designed for CICS-3270 processing.

U-NIQ had responsibility for all design, development, adaptation, testing, documentation and implementation of Medibank Private systems required to support this initiative. The role required collaboration with OPTUS who were responsible for the EFTPOS network and KEYCORP who were responsible for programming the eftpos devices.

Lifetime Health Cover for Medibank Private Ltd

In 2000, U-NIQ re-engineered the Medibank Private Ltd IT systems to support the implementation of Commonwealth Government legislated Lifetime Health Cover initiatives.

U-NIQ’s role was that of prime contractor, managing a project team comprising staff from U-NIQ, the client organization and a subcontractor CPIC as well as working with third party service providers IBMGSA and DMR.

U-NIQ had responsibility for the design, development, testing, documentation and implementation of all the requisite application system changes required to deliver this system.

Consultancy Services to IBM Global Services

Strategic advice was provided to IBM Global Services relating to their proposed outsourcing bid for Centrelink IT infrastructure.

Consultancy Services to Medibank Private

U-NIQ were engaged to provide strategic advice and project management services to Medibank Private.

Member of ACT Business Incentive Scheme Panel

A Director, Jim Humphreys was a member of the ACTBIS panel for several years. This panel provides advice to the ACT Government in relation to applications for assistance packages designed to encourage businesses to relocate to the ACT, expand an existing business activity or develop new business activities.
